A mother of two, a wife, a birth and postpartum doula, and an end of life doula.
I have spent my life searching for my calling, and I knew that somehow it involved birth, but often found I was halted in my journey to stop and help others along the way. In this, I eventually realized that my journey was being that support system. I had been searching for an answer that was being placed in front of me.
I knew I wanted birth to be the core of my life. I started listening to myself, and dove in. I went through amazing training courses with so many strong and resilient women and I knew instantly that I had found my people.
Birth is the root of EVIONA.
Truthfully, I completely stumbled upon End of Life doula care throughout my journey of pursuing birth. It was unexpected to say the least. But, I am a real ham for adding to my education library so I thought why not? Then, I became apart of something so much bigger then I was, and that was it.
I was so torn between the need for support to birthers, and the need to support people nearing their end of life. The two polar opposites of the life circle. Our life journey starts, and our life journey stops. Once again, I was completely torn between paths, and I knew I had to pursue both.
These experiences are raw. They are real. They are unfiltered. They are unique. Above all else they are not meant to be walked alone.
Welcome to my doula journey!
I demanded a name that truly captured what I envisioned for my business. I spent weeks researching the values that I wanted to project into my work and thought of ways I could honour those values.
It became obvious that all of my values circled back to two main elements: wanting to celebrate life, and wanting to protect the journey.
EVIE is a Hebrew name that quite literally means life. This particular name stood out to me as needing to be incorporated because it also pays tribute to my daughter, and to the women that supported me in my labour. These women nurtured and healed me, and helped me see how important this support work was.
Adeona is the greek goddess of homecomings. She was said to be responsible for the safe return of children home after they have been gone. To me, the perfect goddess to protect lifes' journey, both entering the physical and reaching the after. Returning children to their homes.
